August Community Update

Houses

Towards the end of September, the governor’s Property Tax Reform Working Group will release its report with recommendations for providing tax relief to Ohio’s homeowners. The group, which includes former legislators, county commissioners, school district superintendents, a county treasurer, and two county auditors, has been meeting to discuss what reforms they feel can be realistically accomplished.

It is my sincerest hope this report can be the catalyst that finally pushes the General Assembly to pass property tax relief laws that support homeowners while also ensuring proper funding for schools, first responders, libraries, and other essential services.

The County Auditor’s Association of Ohio has brought forward proposals for reform that are fair, practical and thoroughly reviewed. As your Franklin County Auditor, I remain committed to advocating for a balanced, bipartisan menu of options that gives homeowners the relief they need while maintaining stability for our communities.

Ohioans pay some of the highest property taxes in the country. That does not have to be the case. Reform is possible if state lawmakers and the governor work together to enact the proposals already before them.

I encourage you to reach out to your legislators and share why property tax reform matters to you.
