Summer has unofficially begun and people are out enjoying the fresh fare of farmers markets and making travel plans in anticipation of warmer weather. Your Franklin County Auditor’s office will be hard at work protecting consumers, at the gas pumps, store pricing scanners or that scale that weighs your fresh vegetables or deli meats.
At the gas pumps, Auditor’s office weights and measures inspectors have been diligently checking them to ensure accuracy and that no credit card skimmers are present. Inspected pumps have stickers reflecting their certification, and a QR code that can be scanned by your phone should there be questions about the gas pump.
At store scanners and scales in places like farmers markets and grocery stores, inspectors are checking to ensure scanned prices are correct and that the scales are accurate and you get what you pay for. These inspections are important: a few years ago they helped uncover incorrect pricing issues at area Dollar General stores, which were rectified after the state filed a lawsuit against the company.
In real estate, the office continues to offer eAlerts to protect homeowners from fraud. Any change to a property’s information with the Auditor’s office results in an immediate email notification to the homeowner. Signing up is free and easy and can be done by searching for a property on the Auditor’s website and then clicking on the red “Sign Up for or Manage Property eAlerts.”
The Auditor’s office has always sought to protect Franklin County consumers from fraud. This summer we will continue to be vigilant, working for consumers and making sure everyone can enjoy their summer activities.
