August Community Update

Just over a year ago, your Franklin County Auditor’s office notified all property owners across the County of their tentative property values and we began engaging with each owner who desired a Property Value Review, giving homeowners an opportunity to have a voice in the statutorily required mass reappraisal process.

This month, your Auditor’s office is proud to announce it has been recognized by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) with a Public Information Program Award for the office’s Know Your Home Value campaign during the 2023 Mass Reappraisal.

The multifaceted campaign featured an innovative one-stop shop website that both educated homeowners and enabled them to participate in the valuation process through the Neighborhood Survey and Property Value Reviews. It employed new, innovative GIS technologies and outreach to engage residents and help them understand why their property values changed. For the first time, the office developed a Property Tax Estimator so homeowners could see how their new values would affect their property taxes. It also included an extensive media and mail campaign to property owners about their new tentative values and their options.

The Auditor’s office goal throughout this process was to enable homeowners to be part of the process in a way they have never been before in working with the office to determine the appropriate value of the property as well as to understand the reappraisal process, which was the goal of the Know Your Home Value campaign.

This was an enormous undertaking, and the office is thrilled that it has received international recognition from the preeminent appraisal organization in the world, the IAAO. I look forward to embarking on more innovative programs and initiatives in the future for the residents and businesses of Franklin County.
