During this month’s Franklin County Fair the Sheriff’s office swore in a new therapy dog, Sunny. I had the distinct honor of giving 6-year-old Sunny a lifelong dog license from your Auditor’s office so he can serve the residents of Franklin County through his soothing therapy.
Dog licensing is responsible pet care, and it’s about more than just being required by state law. During these summer months when fireworks are being set off, licensing your dog ensures that if they are lost they will be returned to you quickly. It ensures that dog owners vaccinate their dogs against rabies. And, licensing fees support the Franklin County Dog Shelter, which helps the dog community at large.
One-year, three-year and permanent licenses are always available for purchase online at https://doglicense.franklincountyohio.gov/ , where owners can also change their address, download forms and update their dog’s information. Dog owners can also purchase licenses in-person at the Auditor’s office licensing counter, 373 S. High St., 21st Floor in downtown Columbus. The counter is open Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
Though licensing season is from December 1-January 31, licenses are currently available for double the normal price, as is required by state law. If you’ve just moved here from another county in Ohio, the Auditor’s office will honor your old license until it expires.
I urge all Franklin County dog owners to Protect your Pal and make sure your dog is licensed.
