Property Tax Assistance Program Receives Additional Funding From County to Help Older Residents
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Franklin County has allocated $120,000 in additional funding for the Property Tax Assistance Program (PTAP) to help older low-income and disabled homeowners pay their taxes, Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano announced Tuesday.
The PTAP provides emergency one-time property tax assistance to low-income homeowners age 60 or older and homeowners with a documented disability. The new funding is in addition to $40,000 in existing funding from the county. Prior to 2022 PTAP was funded solely through donations.
“I want to thank Franklin County Commissioners for their ongoing support in funding of this important program, which plays a crucial role by helping our older homeowners on fixed incomes age in the place best for them,” Stinziano said. “I encourage anyone who qualifies and needs assistance to apply to the program.”
The new funding authorized by Franklin County Commissioners comes from the Franklin County Office on Aging’s Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund.
PTAP applications are reviewed by a Board that includes the Franklin County Auditor, Franklin County Treasurer, Franklin County Office on Aging, Franklin County Veterans Service Commission, Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, Age Friendly Columbus-Franklin County, Concord Counseling, Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resource Center, Catholic Social Services, Syntero, and St. Stephens Community House.
The deadline for assistance paying 2022 first half taxes has already passed, however applications are being accepted for help paying the second half taxes. Qualifying homeowners can apply for PTAP online at the Auditor’s office website.
