Auditor’s Office Refunding $5 Million to Franklin County Schools, Libraries, Municipalities

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano announced Tuesday that the Auditor’s office is redistributing $5 million to schools, libraries, municipalities and agencies this November.

Of that $5 million, a majority of the funds – more than $3.2 million - is going to school districts across the county. Additionally, Franklin County cities and villages will get $397,802, townships will get $250,755, libraries and parks will get $130,314, and county agencies will get $964,298.

“Due to the Auditor office’s ongoing commitment to being fiscally responsible, the Auditor’s office is able to return this money to benefit our community,” Stinziano said. “Our goal is to redistribute these dollars back to the taxpayers as closely as possible and I am happy to be able to support our schools, municipalities and ultimately our residents.”

Columbus City Schools will get the largest allotment of all qualifying entities, at $1.07 million. Other notable school districts receiving monies are Hilliard City Schools with $302,771, Dublin City Schools at $301,571, Worthington City Schools at $249,362, South-Western Schools at $249,295, Westerville City Schools with $197,068, and Upper Arlington with $183,557.

Among cities and villages, Columbus received the largest amount, at $184,999, followed by Dublin at $33,693 and Upper Arlington at $28,409. Among libraries, the Columbus Metropolitan Library will receive $92,477, followed by the Worthington Public Library at $14,509 and the Upper Arlington Public Library at $5,377.

The money that is being redistributed is collected as required by state law to pay for real estate reappraisals and triennial updates.
