Auditor Stinziano Encourages Eligible Homeowners to Apply for Property Tax Relief

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On the heels of an historic partnership with The Ohio State University’s Age-Friendly Columbus, Auditor Stinziano reminds qualifying older homeowners that the deadline to apply for property tax relief through the Property Tax Assistance Program is Thursday, May 20.

The program, which is administered by the Auditor’s office in coordination with the Treasurer’s office and several nonprofit partners, assists eligible older Ohioans with onetime financial assistance of partial or full payment of current property taxes. The program also connects qualifying applicants with resources to help them pay their property taxes in the future.

“As communities throughout Franklin County work to recover from the impact of COVID-19, I remain committed to helping our older residents remain in their homes and age in place,” Stinziano said. “We must ensure that our older neighbors are able to reside in their homes with dignity and comfort, and the Property Tax Assistance Program is available to help homeowners stay in their homes and neighborhoods.”

To qualify for the program, a homeowner must be 60 years or older; own and occupy their home as their primary residence; only own one property; and have an income below 150 percent of the federal poverty level for tax year 2020.

Homeowners may apply for the Property Tax Assistance Program by completing the application available on the Auditor’s website and submitting it to Franklin County Auditor, 373 S High St, 21st Floor, Columbus, OH 43215 or AuditorStinziano@franklincountyohio.gov. Applications may also be submitted over the phone by calling 614-525-HOME.
