Auditor Stinziano Launches New Fraud Hotline
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Franklin County Auditor Michael Stinziano unveiled a new hotline that residents can use to report suspected instances of fraud.
Residents who want to report fraud to the Auditor’s office can now call 614-525-SCAM (7226) or send email complaints to consumerprotection@franklincountyohio.gov.
“This hotline is yet another way your Auditor’s office can protect Franklin County consumers from local, national and international fraud and scams,” Stinziano said. “I encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of fraud to use the hotline so we can investigate and help make Franklin County safe for consumers.”
The new hotline comes after several instances of fraud have been reported to the Auditor’s office, including an international dog license scam and fraudulent property title transfers. In addition to the hotline, the office’s weights and measures inspectors already check county gas pumps for credit card skimmers that can defraud consumers.
Callers to the hotline are asked to leave their name (anonymous calls are also accepted), contact information, a description of the fraud event, the date and time it happened, and any other details they can share. The tip will then either be investigated by the Auditor’s office or will be referred to the appropriate legal authority.
“As the county’s chief fiscal officer and sealer of weights and measures I will always remain vigilant in the fight against fraud,” Stinziano said.
