COVID and Flu Vaccine Guidance

Our esteemed Medical Director, Dr. Miller Sullivan, was featured on NBC4 discussing the relationship between cold weather and the increase of respiratory infections. Fight seasonal illnesses and keep your families safe by following his recommendations included in the news article.

Additional recommendations from staff include: everyone 6 months and older should receive an annual flu vaccination

Older adults over the age of 65 years of age and those younger with one or more of the risk factors are recommended to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Please reach out to your doctor, pharmacist or our FCPH immunization nurses with any questions and to discuss if you’re at increased risk for severe COVID-19 infection.

EAC November Meeting

The last Equity Advisory Council (EAC) meeting of the year is scheduled for November 24 from 12:30-2:00 pm. The meeting will highlight the languages spoken within Franklin County and a recognition pilot program. There will also be a surprise announcement for an EAC opportunity. Join us to find out more!

In addition, we are working to coordinate an in-person EAC meeting to strategize key action items for the EAC Strategic Plan. If you are interested in attending and have not received the doodle poll to schedule, please contact Lisa Dent.

Living Legend Award

Congratulations to Victoria Jackson Anderson for receiving the prestigious Living Legend Award! Victoria is serving her third term as the president of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Columbus chapter. She has also been a long standing EAC member and advocate for public health. FCPH will be in attendance to celebrate her continued commitment to serving Franklin County.

Environmental Health

Vector Program

Most people will recover from contracted mosquito viruses their own. Treatments are aimed at easing symptoms, which are typically flu-like. About 1 in 150 people who experience symptoms will have long-term effects. Since both West Nile Virus and La Crosse Virus can cause swelling of the brain, those effects might include neurologic symptoms like fatigue, persistent headache, seizures, paralysis. If you experience any or all of these symptoms, contact your physician immediately.
