Now Available: FY 2026 U.S. EPA Brownfields MARC Grant Guidelines & Ohio EPA Letter of Support Process

The U.S. EPA has released the FY 2026 Guidelines for the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund (RLF), and Cleanup (MARC) Grants. These grants support communities in assessing, cleaning up, and redeveloping brownfield sites.
The application deadline is January 28, 2026.
Requesting an Ohio EPA Letter of Support
Multipurpose, Assessment, or RLF Grant applicants must include a letter of support from Ohio EPA as part of their applications.
Cleanup applicants, depending on the applicant type and whether the site(s) are eligible for enrollment in a voluntary cleanup program or state-equivalent oversight program, applicants may also need to meet Threshold Criterion 2.B.(9). In these cases, a current letter from Ohio EPA is also required. This letter will only be issued after Ohio EPA reviews sufficient documentation to evaluate site readiness.
Only one letter is needed if applying for multiple grant types.
- Deadline to request a Letter of Support from Ohio EPA: January 7, 2026

What to Include in Your Request
For Assessment and Multipurpose Grant Applicants:
Submit the following:
- Type(s) of grant(s) and amount(s) requested
- Site name(s), location(s), ownership, and brief history (or focus area)
- Proposed use of funds (e.g., inventory, assessments)
- Community need and expected benefits
- Leveraging of other resources (e.g., Ohio EPA's TBA or technical assistance)
For Cleanup Grant Applicants:
Submit the following:
- Draft ABCA
- Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments
- Any remedial action plans
- Statement confirming assessments will be completed by June 15, 2026 (if not yet done)
