A Message from the Principal
Hello Deer Park Families! Happy Sunday!
We hope you are having a great weekend. We would like to extend our gratitude to all who served and have served in our military. You have and still keep us safe each and every day. THANK YOU!
As the focus of sports, arts, and other after school activities move indoors, it is hard to believe that we are halfway through the second quarter. Also this is a great way to check ProgressBook with your child. You will find things to celebrate with them and maybe some areas they need support in. Don’t forget all of the great resources available and listed below if they need a little extra help. We are looking forward to a great week at The Park and we hope you have one as well.

Classroom Spotlight
In Mr. Moore's Modern World History class students are learning about the Industrial Revolution. In this particular lesson students were learning about the labor movement that developed during the industrialization of work. The Clear Learning Goal for Mr. Moore's lesson was for students to "Describe the labor movement, trade unions and explain their tactics of collective bargaining and labor strikes.
This lesson is based on the Ohio Modern World History standard 8, which states, " Industrialization had social, political and economic effects on Western Europe and the world."
In this lesson students used a guided notes system based on the online tool Pear Deck where students took notes and responded to documents based on the labor movement. In addition, as a way of having students visualize and "experience" the labor movement Mr. Moore utilized a series of controlled tug-of-wars in the classroom between the "owner" and the "workers." Students played these roles in different scenarios when a single worker challenged a business owner over work pay, when a labor union challenged a owner, in collective bargaining (a give and take) over working conditions and a labor strike where the students competed to see if the labor union or the ownership group would prevail in a labor dispute.
At the conclusion of each "tug-of-war" scenario between workers and owners, students responded to what they learned via the Pear Deck system where Mr. Moore measured their mastery of the elements of the labor movement.
The students involved are Wyatt Tornatore and Duncan Bucholtz

Fall Play Next Weekend
Make your plans to see our Fall Play this weekend. Here is a brief summary:
"When the aging king of a Magical Kingdom (England) decides to split his empire between his three daughters, Cinderella, Belle, and the Snow Queen (who in no way resembles a copyrighted character), terrible tragedy ensues. Terrible, hilarious tragedy. Combining the gut-wrenching plot twists of Game of Thrones, and the soul-numbing despair of Shakespearean tragedy, this adaptation of King Lear will leave you dying with laughter. When you play the Game of Tiaras, you win or you die."
It will be this Friday (November 18) & Saturday (November 19) in Crawford Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

1st Quarter Honor Roll
Congratulations to all of our 1st Quarter Honor Roll Students. We are very proud of all the hard work our students put in to excel in their academics. Great job of representing The Park!

8th grade Washington DC Trip This Week
We are excited for our 8th graders that head to Washington DC this week. I have taken this trip in the past with another district and it is a fantastic experience for our students. A big Shoutout to Amity teacher Katie Estep teacher for planning the trip and Mr. Hills, Mr. Gergen, and Ms. Troxell for joining Ms. Estep and taking time away from their families to give our kids this great experience.

Sophomore Pre-ACT Scores
Parents/guardians of sophomores who completed the Pre-ACT, student scores have come back. Their teachers will be passing back their paperwork from the ACT company sharing what their scores were for each section, and how to interpret the score. Expect your student to bring that home by Friday.

Sandy's Closet Clothing Room Open Nov. 19
On Saturday, Nov. 19 Sandy's Closet will be open from 9-11 a.m. to Deer Park residents looking to shop for FREE clothing for children of all ages. We will also be accepting donations of gently used children's clothing and shoes, infants through high school age, at that time.
No appointment is needed. The entrance to Sandy's Closet is along the Southeast side of the Holmes Building toward the back of the parking lot.
Sandy's Closet is also open for families to shop for clothing items Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to-3 p.m.

In Case You Missed It
Next Coffee With the Administrators | December 7 at 6 p.m.
We had a great conversation at our last “Coffee with the Administrators” on building safety this past week. Our next meeting will be on December 7th at 6:00 p.m. and could be one of the most important meetings you could go to this year. We will be talking about keeping our kids safe in this world of social media, apps, internet and cell phones. Stephan Smith from A Wired Family will be here to talk with us. He will be featured on Local 12 news in the upcoming months and has spoken to 1000’s of students and parents on this topic. I have had the pleasure of working with Stephan over the last 15 years and he is the only adult I know that knows more about the internet, social media and apps than our kids do.
If you feel inadequate at times, like I do about really knowing what kids are doing, how to manage all of this and keeping your kids safe, this is one meeting you do not want to miss. There will be more information to come but I wanted to get the date out to families as soon as possible.

Sandy’s Closet Donations
Deer Park Schools owes a big thank you to our community for supporting Sandy’s Closet this past spring and summer. The clothing room has seen a significant increase in family use since the beginning of this school year. Your donations have been greatly appreciated by our shoppers.
As you begin to change over your own children’s clothing for fall and winter, please keep us in mind for any clothing your children can no longer wear that you are looking to donate. We accept gently used children’s clothing, shoes, boots, coats etc. - sizes infant through clothing appropriate for our high school students.
Donations can be dropped off at the front desk of the Holmes Building M-F from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are grateful for your continued support of our families.
Smile Program Coming to Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School
Great news! Deer Park Community City Schools has again partnered with the Smile Programs…the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care!
The mobile dentist will be coming to both Amity Elementary and the Jr./Sr. High School on:

Lunch Charge Policy
This is a reminder to parents that once a student reaches $30 of charges on their account, they will be provided with a minimal lunch which includes a peanut butter sandwich (or equivalent for those with allergies), a fruit, a vegetable, and a milk. Once they pay their charges, students can resume purchasing a lunch of their choice. For questions on your student's lunch charges, contact the main office.
New Crisis Lifeline
If you haven’t heard, the new suicide and crisis lifeline is 988. You can also text 988 or chat at 988lifeline.org

- Need some academic help? Morning Intervention is available all year for students to come in for extra help from teachers on Thursdays at 7:35am. Students also have a daily “extra help” bell during the day to meet with their teachers.
