A Message from the Principal
Hello Deer Park Families! Happy Sunday!
Our students continue to show their talents in big ways! Our football team knocked off Finneytown Friday night and qualified for the state playoffs on a roll! They will play Friday night at Tri-Village. Our Marching Band wrapped up a recorded braking season with two SUPERIOR ratings at the Shawnee and Turpin competitions on Saturday and now will compete in the state band competition this Saturday. Finally, our girls soccer team advanced to the 3rd round of the state playoffs with a 9-0 win Saturday vs. St. Bernard. They will now play Summit Country Day on Tuesday night at 7:00 at Norwood.
It was certainly an amazing fall full of accomplishments and we are not done yet!

Classroom Spotlight
The past three days, the Deer Park High School Class of 2023 participated in a widespread service activity across the city of Cincinnati known as "Senior Serve." The senior class volunteered nearly 600 hours this week at multiple non for profit agencies. Seniors visited Matthew 25 Ministries, Lord's Gym, FreeStore Food Bank, InReturn, and LADD, while simultaneously discussing and investigating issues of hunger, food scarcity, community, and housing. Seniors spent the week learning how they can have a big impact not only on their community but in the lives of others.
In the afternoon seniors reflected on their experience in small groups, in addition to turning their attention to life beyond high school. Grades 10-12 counselor, Corrie Madden, met with every senior and had the opportunity to check in on post-secondary plans. Additionally, seniors were encouraged to develop their own service-learning project that addresses some of the issues they saw in our community.
Senior English teacher, Tim Hubbard, noted that "beyond having the opportunity to work with our students in real-world scenarios, we also got to remind ourselves that Deer Park is truly a bright spot in the greater Cincinnati area- a place filled with giving and compassionate students who regularly see (and act) beyond their own immediate wants and emotions. While it might sound cliche, it truly makes Deer Park the place to be."
Building news
Attention 9th Grade Families:
As noted in previous newsletters, our district is giving the Terrace Metrics Assessments to grades 6 - 12. On Monday, our 9th graders will be taking this assessment, which will provide data on our students’ social/emotional strengths and needs. Please know that the results of the assessment are confidential; no teacher will have access to your child’s results.
Only members of the school’s response team (e.g., counselors, school psychologists) will see student’s results, which are available immediately after the assessment is completed. This allows us to understand the strengths and needs of every student, including those who would benefit from additional strategies. If your child has endorsed high distress, a member of the school’s response team will contact you by phone to discuss next steps.
One of these steps may include a “Clairity” assessment, provided by Clarigent Health. Clairity involves a private, ten-minute interview where the student is asked about their thoughts and feelings by a trained member of the response team. The interview is securely recorded and the speech patterns (rather than the answers themselves) are analyzed to assist the response team in determining the appropriate course of action for the student.
For more information or to opt your child out of this survey, please click here.

ALICE Information
In the next couple of weeks we will be conducting an ALICE Drill (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) . We are in the process of meeting with each class to review ALICE Drill procedures with students. Please know that our goal is never to scare students or raise their anxiety but it is very important in the unlikely event that our building had an intruder that our teachers and students know how to instinctively react. We are partnering with Deer Park Police and we will be doing Professional Development with our staff on Monday 10/17. Also this will be our main topic at our Next Coffee with Admin on Wednesday November the 2nd 6:00 - 7:00 at The Cat Den. We had a great discussion at our last meeting and would love to see you there!!

As you begin to change over your own children’s clothing for fall and winter, please keep us in mind for any clothing your children can no longer wear that you are looking to donate. We accept gently used children’s clothing, shoes, boots, coats etc. - sizes infant through clothing appropriate for our high school students.
Donations can be dropped off at the front desk of the Holmes Building M-F from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are grateful for your continued support of our families.
