A Message from the Administrators
Hello Deer Park Jr./Sr. HIgh School Families,
This week, Mindy and I want to highlight the second quarter honor roll students and the Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School staff who presented best practice instructional strategies at our Friday morning meeting.
Make no mistake about it, a priority at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School is the pursuit of academic excellence in all of our classrooms daily. Included in this Wildcat Weekly are the names of students who, through their hard work and dedication, have earned the second quarter honor roll. Their names are provided below in the Student Exemplar section. Congratulations to our student academic role models. We couldn't be more proud of you and what you have accomplished!
Continuous improvement in the area of instructional best practice that improves the quality of the instructional delivery provided by our teachers in our classroom daily is taking place before school at DPHS. Our entire instructional staff have been engaged in high-impact staff development. Mindy and I want to recognize members of our teaching staff who presented best practice strategies: Tim Hubbard shared a strategy for vocabulary and critical thinking called "5 word sense". This strategy can be used in any course to support students. Kelsey Ramicone shared a few reading strategies that can support students' reading in all subjects. This included appropriate graphic organizers and their purpose, as well as some other organizational and processing strategies for non-fiction texts. Finally, Jen Taylor shared a records strategy on how to keep up with accurate attendance that is efficient for our staff.
A sincere thank you to Tim Hubbard, Kelsey Ramicone, and Jen Taylor for making a difference in the quality instruction taking place in our classrooms!
We are rolling right through the month of January as a learning community. We are focused on Teaching and Learning. Our team is here to serve you!

Classroom Highlight
We had a very productive week of teaching and learning in our classrooms. I stopped in multiple classrooms this week and am always impressed with the best practice instruction taking place there. One specific classroom was Mrs. Weber's, where she was focused on identifying time. Time is a valuable resource at DPHS and every minute matters during the instructional day.
The learning target for this lesson was based on Individualized Education Plans for students that focus on identifying time. Students were expected to use the handheld clock to identify the time to the minute, elapsed time, and subtracting time. At the end of the lesson, students needed to answer three questions independently to determine their understanding of subtracting time. The data used helped determine if students needed remediation of material or they could continue to progress towards their goals.
This lesson was taught in a small group setting with visual representation on the Vizio board, worksheets, and manipulatives to help solve the time questions. The curriculum for this lesson was from the research based program, Unique Learning Systems.
The standard used for this lesson is 3.MD.1 Work with time and money. a. Tell and write time to the nearest minute. Measure time intervals in minutes (within 90 minutes). Solve real-world problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals (elapsed time) in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram or clock.
Thank you Mrs. Weber for providing real-word problems that challenged your students which were aligned with the standards. Also, thank you for planning success criteria to check students' understanding of the standard taught. Super job Mrs. Weber and her students!
Student Exemplars
- A Big Congratulations goes out to Addy Holleran (Baritone Horn) and Ella Corum (Percussion) for representing the Deer Park Bands in this year's OMEA District 14 Honor Band Event, held Saturday, January 15 at Princeton Varsity Village. These two fine musicians were part of the Greater Cincinnati "All-Star" Concert Bands that presented four concerts with the total number of musicians totaling over 200. Many thanks for their hard work and focus during the big performance and throughout rehearsals last week. Well done!

Mask Requirement Through January 28th: MIn an effort to slow the spread of COVID over the next two weeks so we can ensure in-person schooling without a disruption to our services, we have made the decision to implement a temporary mask mandate for all staff, students, and visitors in Deer Park Schools effective Tuesday, January 18th through Friday, January 28th. This mandate will be in effect at all times while in a Deer Park Schools facility.
