Amity Elementary

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of the 2nd Quarter and a week before winter break. I reflect on all my years in education (including when I was a student), and this week is always an exciting week. It's a celebration of the halfway point of the year, and a break from academics to be a kid for a couple of weeks. I’m happy that although the world around these students has changed and been made different from this pandemic, that this excitement still exists! COVID19 can’t steal this joy from our students!

I hope you have a wonderful winter break and enjoy the time with your family!

Take Care,
Josh

Merry Monday- Wear your favorite holiday shirt!

Toasty Tuesday- Keep warm in your favorite (school appropriate) pajamas or cozy clothes.

Winter Wonderland Wednesday- Wear your favorite hat and cozy socks!

Thermal Thursday- Keep warm in your favorite (school appropriate) pajamas or cozy clothes.

No School On Friday, December 18th

There will not be school on Friday, December 18th for any students grades Preschool-12th grade in Deer Park, as it is a teachers records day. Teachers will be grading and inputting grades for the 2nd quarter grade cards.

Lock Down Drill

As part of our district’s ongoing focus on school safety, we conducted our lockdown drill for B day students on Thursday morning at 9:00 AM. The drill lasted roughly 4 minutes and then students returned to their normal academic day. The Deer Park Police Department was on campus during the drill to observe in an effort to improve the safety of staff and students. Our students and staff did a wonderful job of practicing a lock down, as everything went as planned.
We will practice the same drill with our A day students on Tuesday.
Please feel free to reach out to our teachers or members of the administrative team should you have questions regarding the drill.

2nd Semester K-5th Grade Virtual Students

Attention parents of Kindergarten through 5th grade students who will be virtual next semester:

We will be distributing the Accelerate workbooks needed for second semester Thursday and Friday of next week. Pick up times will be from 8:15-3:30 each day. To help limit contact, when you enter the vestibule at Amity, you will be asked for your child's name so we can gather the needed books and we will bring them to you. While in the vestibule, we ask that you wear a mask to help keep everyone safe.

Winter Break

Winter break will start December 18th and run through January 3rd. Students will resume at Amity Elementary in person on Monday, January 4th.

In Case You Missed It

Attendance

Please remember to call our attendance line (513-891-2414) or email Betty Jung (jung.b@dpccsd.org), our attendance secretary, if your student is going to be out.

This is especially important with the number of people that are either required to quarantine by the health department, or quarantining on their own accord.    We need to be aware of these situations outside of school so that we can appropriately mark the attendance and provide guidance from the district if necessary.   Thanks for all your help!

Amity Cat News

The Amity Cat News is up and running. Our student led morning announcement is scheduled to post every morning at 7:45 so your student can stay connected with what is going on whether they are at school or at home. The link to the youtube channel is below

Outdoor Recess

With a return to cooler temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor attire for recess. We are working hard to go out to recess daily, especially as it allows for a time that our students can take a socially distanced mask break. Our recesses are 30 minutes in length this year so it is important that our students be comfortable while they are outside.
