A Message from the Superintendent

Jr./Sr. HS to Continue Remote Learning through November 24

Dear Deer Park Families:

As you all know, over the past two weeks our Jr/Sr High School students have been participating in a remote learning model while we try to rid the district of the COVID-19 virus.  During this time, I have heard from many parents, students, and teachers regarding the effectiveness of remote learning compared to the hybrid model at the Jr/Sr High School.

The remote learning model allows our teachers and students to engage in meaningful instruction and discussion every single day.  While neither the hybrid model nor the remote learning model are ideal, we feel like the remote learning model gives our students at the Jr/Sr High School level the best opportunity to have meaningful educational experiences on a daily basis.  For that reason, we have decided to extend the remote learning model at the Jr/Sr High School through Tuesday, November 24th.

Amity Elementary will remain on their hybrid model as we originally announced through November 24th.  With the week of Thanksgiving being a shortened week, “A” day students will report on Monday, November 23rd and “B” day students will report on Tuesday, November 24th.  All students in the district will be on Thanksgiving Break from Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th.

For planning purposes, our current plan is for all students in grades 1 through 12 to return to full time face-to-face instruction on Monday, November 30th.  Kindergarten students will remain on their half day schedules.

We continue to appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate through these ever-changing circumstances.

Sincerely,

Jay Phillips                                                                                            Superintendent
