Everything You Need to Know for #SethStrong AFM Awareness Week
Dear Deer Park Families,
As many of you may know, in September of 2018, Deer Park High School student Seth Dryer was diagnosed with a rare and devastating Polio-like disease called Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM), leaving him paralyzed. Following his diagnosis, Seth spent more than a year in the Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital. As can be imagined following so much time in the hospital, the bills can pile up. In addition, the Dryers are in need of a wheelchair accessible van to be able to transport Seth. Currently, they are dependent on a medical transport to get to doctor appointments. The transport service is appreciated, but at times difficult due to having to wait up to 90 minutes for a ride home after stressful medical appointments. But most of all, they have no way to take Seth on unplanned outings.

During the week of December 9-13, Deer Park High School will host "#SethStrong AFM Awareness Week" raising money and awareness for AFM.
Several events and fundraisers will be happening throughout the week, and each day students will be encouraged to participate in a themed dress-up day. Below is a list of everything you need to know for each day, and how you can participate!
Monday, December 9 - WEAR BLUE
- 7 p.m. - High School Choir Concert | Baked goods sold
- Holiday Grams sold during lunch
- T-shirts ($10) and #SethStrong Bracelets ($1) sold during the school day
Tuesday, December 10 - WEAR FAVORITE DP SPIRIT WEAR
- 7:30 p.m. - Boys Basketball Game | Silent Auction Begins (concludes Friday)
- Holiday Grams sold during lunch
- T-shirts ($10) and #SethStrong Bracelets ($1) sold during the school day and at basketball game
Wednesday, December 11 - WEAR FAVORITE SPORTS JERSEY
- Holiday Grams sold during lunch
- T-shirts ($10) and #SethStrong Bracelets ($1) sold during the school day
Thursday, December 12 - WEAR FAVORITE CONCERT/BAND SHIRT
- 7 p.m. - 6th Grade Band Concert | Baked goods sold
- Holiday Grams sold during lunch
- T-shirts ($10) and #SethStrong Bracelets ($1) sold during the school day
Friday, December 13 - WEAR GRAY
- 7:30 p.m. - Boys Basketball Game "Gray Out" | Silent Auction concludes
- Holiday Grams distributed during the school day
- T-shirts ($10) and #SethStrong Bracelets ($1) sold during the school day and at basketball game (while supplies last)
Saturday/Sunday, December 14-15 - Seth Weekend at MVPs
Next weekend (Dec. 14-15), MVP Sports Bar & Grille will donate 20 percent of food sales to help support the Dryer family. Please let your server know you are there for Seth Weekend. Help support the Dryer family and take a trip to MVP Sports Bar & Grille for a great lunch or dinner!
