Happy Thanksgiving!

As we enter a 2-day school week, we also look forward to this time of the year where we get to have some time simply spent with family and friends to rest, recharge, and give thanks.  We want to thank you as part of the Deer Park Family too for all that you do to support our schools!  Thank you for supporting your students, our staff, and our community!  Have a safe, fun, and happy Thanksgiving!

-Shane Hartley, Principal of Deer Park Jr/Sr High School

What's New?

No Wildcat Weekly Next Sunday

Due to this being a short week (no school Wednesday 11/27 - Friday 11/29), we're going to combine any announcements needed for the next two weeks into this Wildcat Weekly.

High School Exam Schedule

1st Semester Exams for High School students will begin on December 17th.  Junior High students will not have any "exams," though they may still take some in-class assessments.  All Junior/Senior High School students will have the same start/end times for this week.  The schedule is:
Tuesday, 12/17: Full School Day (8:10am-3pm) 6th & 7th Bell Exams after lunch
Wednesday, 12/18: Full School Day (8:10am-3pm) 5th & 4th Bell Exams after lunch
Thursday, 12/19: Early Release Day (8:10am-11:25am) 2nd & 3rd Bell Exams
Friday, 12/20: Early Release Day (8:10am - 9:50am) 1st Bell Exam

NOTE: Students must attend exam periods, as exams are factored into students' overall course grades.  Any absence must be excused, and make-up exams are to be arranged with teachers for Thursday and/or Friday after students are released from the regular school day.

1st Quarter Honor Roll Update

Last week, a few ninth grade students were inadvertently left off of the Honor Roll list for Highest Honors.  We apologize for the error.  The students who earned this recognition are: Grace Heringer, Jadyn Steely, Natalie Vanluit, and Sophia Wilson.  Congratulations!

New Format for Counseling Department Updates!

We recognize that the Wildcat Weekly can sometimes seem like information overload!  In an effort to help streamline the information, we're going to begin having our Counselors' Weekly Update (renamed the "Counselor Corner") as a separate link each week.  Major announcements will still be posted in the Wildcat Weekly, but we hope that this updated format will help you not feel like there are too many announcements all squeezed together.

Here is a link to this week's Counselor Corner!

Advice from On To College: On To College through John Baylor Prep is a valuable resource for any parents and students looking to gain inside information for the college enrolment processes.  Here is a link to their News & Media site.  This week contains information for getting recommendation letters, alternatives to college visits, and more!

Additional Notes from the Guidance Office

Pride Survey Information: As we continue our drug prevention efforts at Deer Park Jr/Sr High, we ask for your support as we administer the PreventionFIRST! Student Survey. This is an anonymous student survey about alcohol use, drug use, and other health behaviors.  The survey information will assist us in assessing our successes or failures in educating students of the health and safety value of not using alcohol and drugs. The PreventionFIRST! Student Survey is a thoroughly researched group of questions that can give us valuable insight into many positive and negative student health behaviors. The survey is an anonymous survey and students are not required to participate, it is voluntary on the part of each student.

If you prefer that your child not participate please inform our office, in writing, before Nov. 15th as the survey will be administered the week of Nov. 25th .

A copy of the survey is available in the main office if you would like to review its content.  A summary of the information gathered will be shared with parents when results are obtained. Thank you for supporting our efforts to help students understand that alcohol and drug use can be harmful to their health and safety.
