Featured Grade: 5th
On Monday, October 7th our fifth grade students and teachers went on an amazing adventure to Camp Kern. We started out journey with a grueling 6 ½ mile hike to Fort Ancient where we learned about its fascinating history. In the evening we played field games and then had a rousing time at the campfire with singing classic camp songs like Baby Shark and Da Moose.
Tuesday morning we took to the woods to learn what life was like for the early settlers in Ohio. Each class became a family with a Mom and Dad and many, many children (not unlike the 1800’s). We interacted with characters from that time which enriched our knowledge of our history. In the afternoon, the kids were able to choose from a number of activities including horseback riding, archery, canoeing and wall climbing. The kids were challenged and the afternoon was filled with laughter, successes and many first-time experiences. In the evening we had a rousing game of live-action Clue followed by the Hoedown where everyone cut loose and danced-including the teachers and parents.
When it was time to come back home we were all exhausted and very happy we were able to spend that time together. We grew as individuals and as a class. A big thank you goes out to everyone who made this trip possible, especially the PTO.
