Third and Fourth graders practiced bus safety this week. They did a great job!

Students continue to work very hard in our new Bridges math curriculum. These mathematicians get to use a variety of math strategies and math tools in a collaborative environment to become better problem solvers. It’s exciting to see their thinking in action.

Mrs. Soellner’s fourth-grade class earned Golden Cat Cards for safe, respectful and responsible behavior. As their reward, they chose to have lunch with the principal. They loved spending time with Mr. Drouhard!

Mrs. Soellner’s class has also been incorporating acts of kindness throughout the day. They start their day with a special morning greeting to each of their classmates. This has been a great way to start the day in a positive way and grow in our Amity friendships!

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

It was another exciting week at Amity Elementary! The highlight of the week for me, was hosting Sherri Duskey Rinker, the author of many children’s books, in an assembly for our K-3 students. Mrs. Rinker shared what inspired her to write her books, the process it took to pitch them and have them made, and even read her new book to the students! She got our students excited for reading through her passion and animated storytelling! Her books are a favorite in our house, so I couldn’t help but purchase her new book, “Three Cheers for Kid McGear” after hearing it. It will make you smile!

Happy Reading!
Josh

PTO Fundraiser

We kicked off our PTO fundraiser this week with an assembly. The fundraising sales forms are due on October 21st. The students were excited to hear about a variety of prizes they could win, including a Limo lunch to LaRosa’s for selling over $250. We’re selling new tumblers, many varieties of chocolates and snacks, and a coupon book with over $5000 of savings! Please support this cause as it benefits our students!

AM Parking Lot

Parents,

Please don’t park in the parking spaces labeled “Staff” in the morning. I understand that most of the time parents are parked waiting for the doors to open so you can drop off your child. Unfortunately, we have a limited number of spaces, and it slows our staff from getting parked and into the building to get ready for the day! We appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Josh

ODE Report Card

ODE

The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) annually issues report cards for each Ohio school district and each Ohio school. The report cards look back on the school year and provide information on such areas as students' performance on statewide tests, graduation rates and early literacy rates.

The 2018-19 report card shows that Deer Park Schools has made significant growth and improvements in many areas of the report card. With an overall district grade of a B and an overall Performance grade of an A, we have a lot to celebrate and build upon.  We are very pleased with our growth and we want to commend our students and staff for working incredibly hard to move the needle forward. We also realize there are plenty of areas for improvement and we will continue to do our best day in and day out to make steady progress and increase student achievement.
