Feature Grade: 3rd Grade
Third graders enjoy sharing their reading with "friends" in the classroom. Reading to a stuffed animal is one option for our self-selected reading time. Students also sent their "love" to a fellow classmate who was out sick during the week. Recess time always provides a great opportunity for the students to work on cooperation skills and practice respectful play and competition. Mr. Phillips even got into the action this week, practicing spelling rules with some excited 3rd graders.
Third graders are getting to know each other with fun activities in the classroom. From morning meeting games and sharing, to surveys about our interests and even measuring each other's heights, we are building connections and friendships every day. Third graders are so excited to learn about new things and try out different ways of thinking. We are a collaborative community of learners.
Academic Awards- Change of Dates
Parents,
I want to make you aware of a change that will occur regarding the scheduling of our 1st Quarter Academic Awards. Our new dates for the 1st quarter awards are as follows:
Wednesday, October 30th- Grades 4-6 Thursday, October 31st- Grades K-3
We apologize for the change in dates, but we are giving our 3rd Grade Ohio State Test the week before, and want our 3rd graders focused on doing their best on that test. Our committee got creative with selecting October 31st for our K-3 awards as they figured that parents would already be taking off to view the Halloween parade for K-3 students in the afternoon.
Thank you for your understanding.
Thanks, Josh

ODE Report Card
The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) annually issues report cards for each Ohio school district and each Ohio school. The report cards look back on the school year and provide information on such areas as students' performance on statewide tests, graduation rates and early literacy rates.
The 2018-19 report card shows that Deer Park Schools has made significant growth and improvements in many areas of the report card. With an overall district grade of a B and an overall Performance grade of an A, we have a lot to celebrate and build upon. We are very pleased with our growth and we want to commend our students and staff for working incredibly hard to move the needle forward. We also realize there are plenty of areas for improvement and we will continue to do our best day in and day out to make steady progress and increase student achievement.
