CINCINNATI, OH—Despite the hot temperatures outside, there is a previously unknown chill in the air on the second floor of Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School. That’s because by week’s end, each second floor classroom will have working air conditioning with the first floor and ground level units fully operational by the end of next week.
Deer Park Schools began the process of exploring A/C in the Jr./Sr. High School following the completion of the Amity Project, which came in under budget. The process began over the summer with ductwork and unit installation.
This week, units on the second floor were inspected and turned on for the first time.
“It’s been great,” 8th grader Bobbie Shoemaker said walking out of Senora Taylor’s Spanish class, located on the 2nd floor. “I almost needed a jacket today!”
The start-up processes will continue throughout the next couple of weeks, with the expectation that all 2nd floor units will be working by the end of the week and workers will then move down to the 1st floor. The gymnasium and cafeteria work is still being completed, but is expected to be operational in the coming weeks, as well.
“It really helps me learn better,” 7th grader Zach Anderson said. “I can concentrate in class without having to worry about sweating or how hot it is. It’s a much nicer feeling in class.”
We are extremely grateful to the community for supporting the 2016 bond levy and thanks to the good fiscal stewardship that led the district to bring the Amity Project in under budget, we were able to make the Jr/Sr High School air conditioning project a reality.
The project is slated to be completed in its entirety by the end of September with a full update from the district coming upon conclusion.
