Familiar Faces Find New Roles at Deer Park
CINCINNATI, Ohio – With the departure of Deer Park Assistant Superintendent Dave Bergan, a pair of familiar faces have slid into new roles at Deer Park Community City School District. Former Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Principal Dr. Stace Orso will now handle duties of Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, while former Assistant Principal Shane Hartley will take over as the Jr./Sr. High School Principal.
While the duo are certainly no strangers to The Park, we wanted to take a moment to reintroduce them in their new roles, and get their thoughts on taking on a new role in the district.
Dr. Stace Orso, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Dr. Orso has served as the Principal at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School since August of 2015. During her time in the Principal’s office, she has introduced a number of different initiatives to the school, including the implementation of Hope Squads, the H3 room and has helped to oversee the development and execution of the Deer Park Career Academies.
“Dr. Orso has been an outstanding leader and a tireless worker as the Principal of Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School over the last four years," Deer Park Superintendent Jay Phillips said. "Her commitment to the staff, students, and community of Deer Park, as well as her desire to serve others are characteristics of Stace that I really admire. While I will miss her leadership at the building level, I look forward to working with her at the district level and seeing her impact K-12.”
Prior to joining Deer Park, Dr. Orso served as the Associate Principal of the Lakota East High School Freshman campus for three years and Assistant Principal of Lakota East High School the year prior. She was also the Principal of Arlington Heights Academy in Lockland from 2009-2011.
“I am excited to learn my new role as Director of Curriculum,” Dr. Orso said. “It’s different from anything I’ve ever done before, but I can’t wait to work with all of the teachers and students in Deer Park. I look forward to hitting the ground running!”
Dr. Orso received her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Arizona State University before completing a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Cincinnati. She concluded her education with a Doctorate of Education in Urban Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati.

Shane Hartley, Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Principal
Shane Hartley becomes the Principal of Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School in his 19th year in education, including two years as the Assistant Principal at DPHS and one year as the Associate Principal.
“I have no doubt that Mr. Hartley will do a tremendous job as the Principal of Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School," Phillips said. "Dr. Orso obviously leaves some big shoes to fill, but I know Mr. Hartley is up for the challenge and he will work hard to forge the positive relationships with staff, students, and parents that are necessary to excel in this position.”
Before his time at Deer Park, Hartley served as a math teacher at Madeira Middle School for six years. No stranger to the Cincinnati Hills League, Hartley also taught math at Finneytown High School for nine years prior.
“I'm honored and blessed with the opportunity to be the next principal at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School,” Hartley said. “Deer Park has been a part of my family for as long as I've lived. As I assume this next leadership role in Deer Park, I'm excited to honor the past traditions that Deer Park holds dear, as well as to continue to help lead Deer Park in its vision to inspire and empower lifelong success for our students.”
Hartley has been familiar with the Park since his childhood. His father, Terry, spent 35 years as a teacher, football coach, and Athletic Director for Deer Park High School. His mother was also an educational assistant at Deer Park for three years. Hartley earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Center College and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati.
