Amity Elementary Opening

We had a great first week in the new, state of the art, Amity Elementary School.  We have been working hard at getting to know your children, learning new routines, and are off to a great start to the school year!  We are so proud to have such an awesome facility to welcome your children to each day, a place of learning they deserve, and look forward to a great year ahead.

Deer Park Schools Welcome Two School Security Officers

Jim Wergers

Deer Park Community City School District is pleased to announce the addition of two new School Security Officers—one at Amity Elementary and one at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School. Beginning with the start of this school year, Jim Wergers and Joe Schlie have assumed duties at the schools.  Both are retired police officers with a combined 70-plus years of police officer experience.  They will work collaboratively with the Deer Park Police Department to keep our buildings safe and secure at all times.

Notes & Reminders

Arrival/Dismissal

Our arrival and dismissal routines continue to be monitored to improve the efficiency of these procedures.  Here are some important reminders that you can do to help with the safety and efficiency of dismissing over 700 students each school day.

  • Remain in your cars and have your children enter/exit the vehicle on the side closest to the building.  Staff members can assist in this if necessary.
  • Pull forward in the drop off lanes to create a larger staging area at arrival and dismissal.
  • Do not park in the Amity parking lot and walk your child to the doors.  If you choose to walk your child to the doors, please park off-site.
  • When picking up a walker, please stay back from the exit doors and have a meeting point.  For K-1 walkers, students will be dismissed to pickup points on the far ends of each sidewalk in front of the building.
  • When you reach the "curb cut" on Linden Ave, please pull to the far right in you are using the 2-6 playground pickup area.  This will allow the K-1 pick-up parents to safely pass your cars and keep the line moving.

Thank you again for your help in making this procedure run safely and smoothly each school day!
