Kindergarten Reporting Reminders

Ohio law requires the Department to annually collect certain information regarding kindergarten enrollment and fees or tuition charged for all-day kindergarten. Results are posted each year on the Department’s website. The relevant attributes are reported during the Beginning of Year Student (S) Collection and the SOES Beginning of Year Student (S) Collection and can be found in EMIS Manual Section 5.3: Organization General Information (DN) Record. These two collections are currently scheduled to close on December 18, 2026. The (ENRL-004) Kindergarten Survey report can assist districts in reviewing the relevant data.

As stated in law, schools offering full-time kindergarten through grade 6 are required to be open for instruction for a minimum of 910 hours in the school’s calendar year. This should be reflected in the EMIS calendars reported for these grades.  

Ohio Law also requires the Department to collect data regarding preschool experiences for each entering kindergarten student. The preschool experience program codes can be found in EMIS Manual Section 2.9: Student Program (GQ) Record.
