New Retained/Promoted Status Option

EMIS change 25-24 added a retention exemption for grade 3 students who have not met the requirements for being promoted to grade 4. This exemption from retention is at the request of the parent or guardian in consultation with the student’s reading teacher and building principal. The new Retained/Promoted Status option for reporting this new exemption is “P”. It is our understanding that one of the student software vendors may have not added this option until recently. We encourage all districts to review their retention reporting to ensure they are reporting option “P” where appropriate. The deadline to report retention data is this Friday, Aug. 30 with a very short appeal window that opens Sept. 2 and closes Sept. 4.
