Participate in the High School
Mathematics Pathways Pilots
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, in partnership with the Ohio Educational Service Center Association (OESCA) is expanding the High School Mathematics Pathways Initiative to support more districts for the 2024-2025 school year. The application window is open from Wed., Nov. 29-Dec. 22. Each of these courses can count toward a student’s third or fourth unit of mathematics and can be used to satisfy the Algebra 2 equivalent credit requirement for graduation.
Mathematical Modeling and Reasoning Course
The Mathematical Modeling and Reasoning Course is in full implementation of the course. Training will be provided for all educators selected to offer this course in the 2024-2025 school year. Mathematical Modeling and Reasoning is an advanced quantitative reasoning course - the application of basic math skills such as algebra to the analysis and interpretation of quantitative information (numbers and units) in real-world contexts to make decisions relevant to daily life. Critical thinking is its primary objective and outcome, emphasizing interpretation, representation, calculation, analysis/synthesis, assumptions and communication.
Note: Submitting interest does not guarantee selection into the project.
Data Science Foundations Course Pilot
The Data Science Foundations Course Pilot is entering its fourth year. Data science uses quantitative reasoning, statistics and computer science to gain meaningful insights from data. Data science focuses on using data to make predictions and decisions. Students will reason with and think critically about data in all forms and will develop their understanding of data analysis, sampling, correlation/causation, bias and uncertainty, probability, modeling with data, making and evaluating data-based arguments, and more.

Data Science Foundations Application (Read-only PDF)
- Application window opens Wednesday, Nov. 29.
- Application window closes Friday, Dec. 22.
- Applications must be completed online. A read-only PDF version of each application is available for pre-planning purposes only.
- A confirmation email will be sent via email upon submission of the application.
Note: Submitting interest does not guarantee selection into the pilot.
Discrete Mathematics/Computer Science Pilot
The Discrete Math/Computer Science Course Pilot is entering its third year. Discrete Mathematics is an area of mathematics that most closely connects with the field of computer science. It is the study of mathematical structures that are countable or otherwise distinct and separable, and it focuses on computational thinking, problem solving and computer science concepts.
