Elizabeth Kregel is the liaison at the ESC of Lake Eerie West. Elizabeth's role and experience as a parent has driven a lot of work in family engagement. Elizabeth is a foster and adoptive parent to three adopted children. Her oldest daughter, Emma, was savagely abused by her biological parents before entering foster care at the age of 5 and getting adopted by Elizabeth at 6. Additionally, Emma has a long list of mental illnesses and is currently in residential treatment for the second time in four years.
Providing the proper care and support for Emma equipped her with skills and resources in trauma informed practices. She was sought after to provide basic trauma training for several member districts at a time that predates the grant funding. Since then she has delivered over 42 trainings titled "Amygdala Hijacks" drawing from her personal experiences and her extensive research on Reactive Attachment Disorder. She has been the keynote speaker for Northwest Ohio Children’s Trust Fund during Child Abuse and Neglect month.
She continues to offer needed services to member districts through leading book studies. Her current book study group is reading "but, he spit in my coffee: A reads-like-fiction memoir about adopting a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD)" by Keri Williams as there has been a need in the community to explore how mental illness impacts the school community and safety. Her current group has 50 participants and is inclusive of principals, assistant principals, counselors and teachers from Preschool to 12th grade. She provides a structure for participants to read and reflect and meet virtually and discuss their own experiences in their school settings.
Thank you for all that you do Elizabeth!
