Introduction
Ohio Revised Code 3313.6011 requires the Department of Education to conduct an annual audit of each city, local and exempted village school district regarding its compliance with the requirements for venereal disease and sexual education instruction.
The audit is required by Ohio Revised Codes 3313.60 and 3313.6011.
The 2022-2023 audit will be opened from March 15 - August 1, 2023. The Department will collect information for the 2022-2023 school year. Starting on March 15 districts may visit the Venereal Disease and Sexual Education Instruction Audit webpage for more information.
Monitoring System
The audit questions are in the monitoring system, found in the OH/ID portal.
Only the Superintendent or Superintendent designee roles can submit the survey; other roles cannot click on the submit button.
Virtual Meetups
The Department will conduct a monthly meetup to address any questions regarding the audit from any district or school administrators.

School and District Requirements

Provide Venereal Disease Instruction: ORC 3313.60 requires health education to include venereal disease instruction. Venereal disease and sexual education instruction course materials and instruction must include the topics noted in ORC 3313.6011.

Parental Notification: Notify parents if the school or district chooses to offer instruction in venereal disease or sexual education beyond the topics outlined in ORC 3313.6011. The notification must include the name of the instructor and the curriculum being used, as well as any applicable vendors. Upon request, the district must provide the instructional materials to a parent.

Parental Permission: Schools and districts are prohibited from providing instruction in venereal disease or sexual education beyond the topics outlined in ORC 3313.6011 to a student without written permission from the student's parent or guardian.

Student Excusal: ORC 3313.60 excuses a student from receiving instruction on venereal disease education upon written request of the student’s parent or guardian.
