Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest Now Open
As part of the 2023 Severe Weather Awareness campaign, the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness (OCSWA) announced that the annual Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest is open for submissions. The contest is held in partnership with the National Weather Service and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (EMA). All poster entries must be postmarked or e-mailed by Friday, April 21, 2023.
The contest is open to all Ohio students in first through sixth grade including individualized instruction (special education), public, private and home school classes. Ohio's Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week will be held Sunday, March 19 through Saturday, March 25, 2023.
The poster contest is meant to be a tool to help students learn about severe weather safety and preparedness. Through their illustrations of Ohio severe weather events, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms and flooding, students can demonstrate what actions they can take before, during and after severe weather events to protect themselves and others. "As parents, educators and mentors it is our responsibility to help children understand the hazards that severe weather poses," said Ohio EMA Executive Director Sima Merick. "Ohioans can experience severe weather at any time of the year. This poster contest is a fun, yet educational way to help children learn about severe weather safety."
To learn more about the 2023 Ohio Severe Weather Awareness Poster Contest, including the complete contest rules and entry forms, visit the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness website.

Arts Education Data Project
Because we know the arts are so important to the development and future success of our children, Ohio Alliance for Arts Education, Ohio Arts Council and Ohio Department of Education have developed an Arts Education Dashboard that enables parents, educators, school administrators and policymakers to see what arts education is being offered in the schools and districts in Ohio. The dashboard also gives educators the ability to track trends.
Ohio is proud to be among the first few states in the nation to provide an online arts education data system available to the public.
Ohio - Arts Education Data Project
The Arts Education Data Project (AEDP) provides the first-ever look at the status and condition of arts education in the U.S. using actual student participation data reported by school districts to their state education departments. The AEDP created the National Arts Education Status Report 2019 as a comprehensive look at access to and participation in arts education in the United States. This report provides the first-ever comprehensive review of the status and condition of music and arts education in U.S. public schools based on large-scale student participation data.
