Ohio’s Time: Education a centerpiece in Governor DeWine’s state budget recommendations

Last week, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine released his recommendations for the biennial Executive Budget for Fiscal Years 2024 and 2025. The budget prioritizes investments in children, families and school communities.

Ohio Literacy Academy returns June 8

The Ohio Department of Education’s Literacy Academy is returning in person June 8 in Columbus.

Students invited to attend, speak at All-Ohio United States Armed Forces Career Commitment Celebration March 7

Students in grades 11 and 12 who have committed to military service can register to attend the March 7 All-Ohio United States Armed Forces Career Commitment Celebration. Register by Feb. 28. Students interested in speaking at the event should indicate their interest by Feb. 20.

The Ohio Professional Learning Directory provides Ohio educators and school staff with a searchable statewide directory of professional learning courses, recordings, documents and events provided by trusted education partners like the Department, educational service centers and public television stations.

The Council for Exceptional Children’s Division on Visual Impairments & Deafblindness recently awarded Cecelia Periano with its Teacher of the Year Award.

Case study highlights successful reading instruction at Riverside Elementary

Like many schools throughout Ohio, Riverside Elementary in Riverside Local School District has taken steps to improve its literacy instruction over the past several years. The Riverside Elementary Case Study tells the story of Riverside's path to successful reading instruction for all students.

New public comment opportunity for changes to EMIS guideline

The Department recently posted a public comment opportunity for an EMIS guideline related to reporting a disability condition. The deadline to comment is March 3.

The Department regularly posts rules for public comment. However, the Department has not posted any new rules since the last edition of EdConnection. Find previously announced public comment opportunities for rules and related deadlines on the Department’s website. Check back often as additional rules may be added throughout the week.
