Four finalists will vie for Cuyahoga Falls schools superintendent job Akron Beacon Journal The field for the superintendent's post in the Cuyahoga Falls City School District has been narrowed to four candidates who will go through a final round of interviews March 19. Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education President Anthony Gomez said he anticipates the board will select the district's new leader on that same day.
Leffingwell leaving Noble Local Marietta Times After nine years serving as Noble Local School District superintendent, Dan Leffingwell is stepping down. “I am resigning my position as Noble Local Schools Superintendent effective July 31, 2022, pending March approval by the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center Board where I will be employed as an Executive Director of Special Projects and Student Services,” said Leffingwell... Columbus City Schools bilingual family ambassadors help bridge language barrier Columbus Dispatch Mary Zapata and her fifth-grade daughter, Victoria Jimenez Zapata, faced many challenges when they moved to the United States from Venezuela a year ago... When Zapata enrolled Victoria in Valleyview Elementary School on the Hilltop, she was pleasantly surprised that the school had a bilingual family ambassador — Galloso — to help provide two-way communication and direct people like herself to school-based resources.
Mentor Schools gets $200,000 grant to expand job training program for students with disabilities Cleveland ABC-5 Mentor Schools is receiving some help with getting its students prepared for life after graduation. The district just received a $200,000 grant for its job training program geared towards students with disabilities. The program is called Cardinal Works. It's a job training coordinating program that teaches life and employability skills to adult students with disabilities between the ages of 19 and 21.
Health care for children inside regional schools to expand Youngstown Vindicator Akron Children’s Hospital has been awarded a $3.9 million Ohio Department of Health grant to expand its School-Based Health Centers, a program that began in 2019 to use schools as a convenient way to provide health care to children who may not otherwise have access. The grant money will allow Akron Children’s to expand its school-based centers in districts already on board: Warren City Schools, Sebring Local Schools, Windham Exempted Village Schools, East Palestine City Schools and Akron Public Schools.
AU alumna receives recognition for science and mathematics educators Ashland Times Gazette Stephanie Nowak, who completed a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University in 1997, is a recent recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th-grade science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching from the U.S. government... Nowak has been an educator for 28 years, currently serving as a fourth-grade teacher at Fairfax Elementary School within Mentor Public Schools in Mentor. She has worked with the Ohio Department of Education as a leading member for both the Science Model Curriculum Development team and the Science Regional Leader Network.
Wheelersburg Mocktrial advances to State Portsmouth Daily Times Wheelersburg Mocktrial will advance to state finals March 10-12. “The last couple of years because of Covid has been pretty different than what we are used to,” said Coach Evan Wills. “We’ll start at the local level all going to the courthouse competing against local teams but this year and last year have been done over zoom.” Wills said teams thoughout Ohio get randomly matched to compete.
MOESC hosts Artapolooza Fine Arts Festival April 2 to 6 Richland Source Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center is excited to host their annual Artapolooza fine arts festival. This year the event will take place April 2 to 6 and will be held at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center... Students from all area schools, not just MOESC member districts, are all welcome and may submit projects for the festival... Districts or schools interested in having student art displayed need to register by March 17.
