'Let's get to work.' Iranetta Wright announced as new Cincinnati Public Schools superintendent Cincinnati Enquirer Iranetta Wright, current deputy superintendent of Detroit Public Schools, was announced as the 28th superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools at the district’s Monday evening board of education meeting. Wright has never been a superintendent before but has worked in education for nearly 30 years, including in leadership roles as chief of schools and assistant superintendent at Duval County Public Schools in Florida, according to her resume. Beginning this year, Wright will lead the third-largest school system in Ohio, which employs about 6,000 staff members and serves approximately 36,000 students in 65 schools.
Ohio governor signs athletes’ religious expression bill Associated Press Schools and school sports regulators could no longer require advance waivers or otherwise restrict participants’ religious apparel unless it causes a “legitimate danger” for fellow competitors, under a bill signed into law Monday by Gov. Mike DeWine. The measure was inspired by an Ohio teen disqualified from a cross-country race because she was wearing a hijab without a required waiver.

Summit Academy to move two charter schools to Malone University's DeVol Hall Canton Repository ... Next year, the all-male residence hall will house a different type of student. DeVol will become the home of two Canton charters schools serving students from kindergarten to high school. Summit Academy Management, which manages a network of 24 public charter schools statewide, plans to move its two Canton schools – Summit Academy Community School for Alternative Leaders and Summit Academy Secondary School – to Malone’s DeVol Hall as soon as January.
Dayton Public School nurse named Ohio’s School Nurse of the Year Dayton Daily News Wright Brothers Middle School school nurse Dawn Abbott was named Ohio’s School Nurse of the Year by the Ohio Association of School Nurses. Abbot has been an Ohio Department of Education licensed school nurse for 24 years and a registered nurse for 42 years, according to a press release from Dayton Public Schools. “I am honored to be selected as Ohio’s School Nurse of the Year,” Abbott said. “I am also thankful for the privilege of serving alongside other DPS school nurses as we care for the health needs of not only students, but the entire DPS school community.”

APS promotes College and Career Academies head Rachel Tecca to assistant superintendent Akron Beacon Journal Eight months after creating the position of chief of leadership and learning, the Akron Public Schools board on Monday approved a name for the job, and it's someone well-known in Akron education circles. Rachel Tecca has been promoted from the executive director of College and Career Academies of Akron to the new assistant superintendent-level role. She has spent more than 25 years with Akron schools and previously served as the principal of North High School.
Ontario superintendent to retire after 35-year career Richland Source It may be Lisa Carmichael’s last year in education, but she’s not counting down the days just yet. Between an upcoming union contract and a renewal levy on the ballot, there’s far too much to do before the superintendent of Ontario Local Schools officially retires... Carmichael will retire as superintendent at the end of June, wrapping up a 35-year career in education.
School leader steps up to lead area district Sandusky Register An experienced Ottawa County school official stepped up to lead another district during a transition period. Clyde-Green Springs Schools board members recently hired Port Clinton Schools superintendent Pat Adkins to be the district's interim leader. Adkins will serve both roles in a dual capacity. In other words, as he helps out Clyde, he'll remain Port Clinton's superintendent.
