New webpage provides information on required supports for students with food allergies and diabetes

Ohio’s 133rd General Assembly enacted House Bill 231, the “Allison Rose Act," to increase supports for students with food allergies and diabetes. Ohio law encourages districts to train school personnel and age-appropriate students on supporting students with food allergies. Ohio law also outlines requirements regarding the procurement, distribution and training for the administration of glucagon to support students with diabetes.

A new Ohio Department of Education webpage outlines the Allison Rose Act requirements, including a list of free or low-cost epinephrine to support students with food allergies. Information about glucagon procurement, policy updates and reporting also is available.

Information on food allergy policy requirements and resources to train staff and students are available on the Department’s Food Allergy Policy Requirements and Guidance webpage.

Please send questions regarding these new requirements and resources to WholeChild@education.ohio.gov.
