Sebring Schools expands food service to students Salem News Sebring Local Schools’ Food Service has been working hard to provide all students with breakfast and lunch daily. The dedicated food service team has been preparing extra food in its kitchens to serve additional meals to its students... The Ohio Department of Education has extended USDA waivers that have allowed the district to expand its service to include meals for all students on the weekends and for students participating in remote learning.

Local superintendents urge end to state testing during pandemic Elyria Chronicle-Telegram High-stakes testing should be put to the side in a school year that’s been flipped upside down by the coronavirus, many Lorain County educators say. But Ohio and federal officials don’t agree. They’re pressing ahead with standardized tests this fall, while educators have their hands full trying to keep COVID-19 out of their buildings.
Parma City Schools return to remote learning as COVID-19 cases spike Cleveland Plain Dealer ... Three weeks into hybrid learning, the superintendent announced late last week due to one student and two staff members testing positive for COVID-19 -- resulting in a combined 75 quarantines -- the district’s return to distant learning starting today (Oct. 19)... As far as guidance is concerned regarding the pandemic, Parma City Schools has mostly been adhering to the color-coded state public health advisory system, which late last week found spiking cases in Cuyahoga County leading to a jump from an orange level 2 to a red level 3.

Warrensville Heights City School District breaks ground on new $68 million school construction project Cleveland CBS-19 On Saturday, Warrensville Heights City School district broke ground on the largest construction project in the community’s history. Warrensville Heights is building a new combined high school and middle school campus to replace the existed school built in 1964. The $68,000,000 project is being funded by a bond passed in 2018. The superintendent said they will be building the school with social distancing measures in mind.
3 Clark County teachers win New Carlisle Rotary Teacher of the Year award Springfield News-Sun Three Clark County teachers were selected as winners of the 2020 New Carlisle Rotary Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. The three award winners were Rhonda Fox and Amanda Crowell from Tecumseh Local School District and Kelly Braun from Northwestern Local School District. All three winners received a commemorative bell and a $500 check.
Kiwanis Student of the Month East Liverpool Review Bradly Sloan, son of Chastity and Richard Sloan of Wellsville, has been selected as the Kiwanis Student of the Month for September at Southern Local High School. He is ranked 12th in his graduating class with a 4.0 GPA. He has been an Honor Roll student in the three years of his high school career and was inducted this past May into the National Honor Society as a junior. Bradly has participated in the College Credit Plus program and has taken Advanced Placement courses, as well as training for industrial maintenance at New Castle School of Trades.
Academic Allies sought for Westerville's blended-learning students ThisWeek Community News Volunteers are wanted in Westerville to help students as Academic Allies in a virtual environment. Colleen Moidu, executive director of the Westerville Education Foundation, said she has heard from many caring, compassionate and empathic individuals who want to help students, teachers and parents as they navigate remote learning this school year... The program will match Westerville students with volunteers for virtual academic support, she said. The new initiative is in partnership with the Westerville Education Foundation, Neighborhood Bridges and the Westerville City Schools in collaboration with the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Amherst Schools outline veteran initiatives in district, receive flags Lorain Morning Journal Amherst Exempted Village Schools, having received Purple Star awards for all four of its buildings for its veteran initiatives, received flags flown in Iraq from an Ohio National Guardsman during an Oct. 12 Board of Education meeting. Assistant Superintendent Mike Molnar said Powers Elementary School, Amherst Junior High School, Walter G. Nord Middle School and Marion L. Steele High School recently received the award, which is valid through 2023.
