School bells ring again for Avon children coming back for 2020-2021 academic year Cleveland Plain Dealer Avon Local Schools welcomed back their 4,500 students Aug. 27, after uncertainty about a new school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As with other local schools, Avon will be utilizing both in-person schedules and online teaching. According to the school system, 23 percent of students have opted for fully online learning this semester. But the rest have returned to the classroom.

ODE releases tiered, reduced minimum standards for 2020-2021 school year Ohio Capital Journal The Ohio Department of Education is reducing minimum standards of early learning for the next school year, they announced on Monday. The new Early Learning and Development standards were split up into degrees of feasibility during the 2020-2021 school year. The department also said the reductions are only in place for the current school year. The standards fall into three categories: critical and feasible, recommended/supplemental, and enrichment or not likely feasible.

Arcanum-Butler Schools gets donation of protective barriers from local plastics company Dayton NBC-2 Arcanum-Butler Local Schools is receiving $2,500 worth of PETG Sheet to use as protective barriers around its schools from Spartech, a leading manufacturer of engineered thermoplastics. Spartech Quality Control Donnie Baker, who lives in and graduated from Arcanum, reached out to the superintendent about whether they needed protective barriers. After that the Spartech stepped in and made the donation.
Lorain County works with Boys & Girls Club to bring back-to-school clothing to thousands of children Cleveland Plain Dealer The “largest ever” back-to-school clothing distribution in Lorain County will be taking place in September. The project is the result of a partnership among the Lorain County commissioners, the county’s Department of Job & Family Services and the Lorain County branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio (BGCNEO). Approximately 3,200 children throughout Lorain County will receive the back-to-school clothing, said Mike Conibear, regional director of BGCNEO.
