During the ordered school-building closure period, schools may continue to receive reimbursement for meals served by participating in the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) or the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Schools may operate as open, restricted open or targeted outreach sites. Refer to the map and map site key for available meal service in your area.

But just about everyone’s in it now.With the coronavirus outbreak closing school buildings, most Ohio K-12 students and teachers are getting a crash course in e-schooling this spring... The Ohio Department of Education put out a 26-page Remote Learning Resource Guide (last) week. Echoing Swineheart, ODE said students “should not try to replicate a traditional school day.”

Ohio Board of Education presents awards to Clark and Dunbar schools Cleveland Plain Press The Ohio Board of Education has presented Clark PreK-8 School with two awards – one for earning an overall grade of A on its most recent state report card and another for showing significant achievement while educating a large number of economically disadvantaged children. To qualify as a High Progress School of Honor, Clark had to demonstrate high proficiency rates, sustained over five years, in a school where at least 40 percent of the students are economically disadvantaged.
Boardman Schools Names Jenkins Parent Mentor Youngstown Business Journal Ariel Jenkins has been named the parent mentor, a newly created position, for the Boardman Local Schools. Her job is to provide free support and resources to Spartan families of children with disabilities... The parent mentor position was in the works well before Covid-19 shut down Boardman school buildings along with all schools across Ohio. The district was awarded a $25,000 grant in February from the Ohio Department of Education to pay for the part-time position — the only district in the Mahoning Valley to receive this type of grant.

One local Cleveland non-profit using its 3-D printers to produce face shields in the fight against the corona virus Cleveland CBS-19 Although school is out, one local school, the Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School, in Cleveland is letting its students work from home to help supply much needed help. 19 News spent the day learning how the equipment they normally use, is being used to make face shields. The school is a regular, industrial looking building in The Flats doing lifesaving work. A chain of 3-D printers and a laser machine are humming away making masks to be used in the fight against the coronavirus.

Watch the funny educational videos Dr. Amy Acton referenced on Friday Toledo CBS-11 School may be out, but at many schools, the learning hasn't stopped. That's the case at Bexley Middle School, where Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton's husband, Eric Acton, is a teacher. At the state's daily address regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), Dr. Acton made reference to funny, yet educational videos, that Bexley Middle School principal Jason Caudill has been sending out since students have remained out of class since March 16. Ohio students K-12 are currently scheduled to remain out of the classroom until at least May 1.
Parma City School District promotes reading and exercise with 20/20 Closure Challenge Cleveland Plain Dealer COVID-19 finds school districts taking different approaches to keep students engaged during these uncertain times. Last week the Parma City Schools started its 20/20 Closure Challenge, which more than 700 students, staff and parents signed up to read at least 20 pages and exercise for at least 20 minutes daily on days schools are closed... The district, which is asking 20/20 Closure Challenge participants to post their times every week, will be creating a leaderboard.

Senior Spotlight: Families showcasing graduating seniors with door decorations Columbus ABC-6 While coronavirus has disrupted Ohio schools, it is still worth celebrating seniors as they graduate high school and college to move into the next chapter of their lives. Families are decorating their doors to showcase their graduating seniors. Shelly Downing sent ABC 6/FOX 28 some pictures of senior door decorations for some Dublin Scioto High School seniors.
Staff at Beavercreek school rewrite song to send a video message to their students Dayton NBC-2 Staff at a Beavercreek school made a video to lift students’ spirits while they work from home. They sang, “We’re working from home. We’re working from home. We’re working from home.” Ferguson Hall Freshman School staff filmed their rendition of “Into the Unknown” from the movie Frozen II. The video shows how they’re working from home during the coronavirus pandemic. They changed the lyrics, and each staff member sent in their own videos that were edited together.

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos Authorizes New Funding Flexibilities to Support Continued Learning During COVID-19 National Emergency U.S. Department of Education U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced today a new streamlined process for providing states funding flexibilities to best meet the needs of students and educators during the COVID-19 national emergency. The new flexibilities, authorized under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, allow schools to repurpose existing K-12 education funds for technology infrastructure and teacher training on distance learning, among other flexibilities to move resources to areas of highest need during the national emergency.
