Student wellness website launched for Ohio schools Youngstown Daily Legal News Just days into the new school year, the state superintendent unveiled a new online resource intended to help educators keep kids at their best so that they may get the most out of their education. Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria, joined by Gov. Mike DeWine, last week announced the launch of the new Student Wellness and Success website, a resource for schools as they plan how to best provide for student wellness needs... While these funds were intentionally designed to give school districts maximum flexibility, DeWine encouraged schools to establish new programs and expand on existing behavioral and physical health care services in schools and wrap supports-such as mentoring and afterschool programs-around our students.

After more than 60 years, no plans to retire for School for the Blind teacher Columbus Dispatch Mary Butler scrolled through her texts and tapped on her current favorite, laughing again as she read the message sent by the parent of a 9-year-old student. The mom wanted Butler to know that her son had been bragging to his big brother that he has “the best teacher” this year. Because Butler has been at it so long, the boy reasoned, she must know more than any other teacher... Butler is 81. She started teaching at the Ohio State School for the Blind in 1959 and remains on the job more than 60 years later — long enough, a colleague observed, to have retired twice... Butler doesn’t care to make a fuss about her extraordinary tenure. She’d rather talk about the North Side school and how it still feels like a family, full of love and laughter and determination to help every child succeed.

National Awards Program Seeking Ohio's Top Youth Volunteers Of 2020 Yahoo Finance Today through November 5, 2019, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is looking for Ohio's top youth volunteers of the year. Students in grades 5-12 are invited to apply for 2020 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards if they have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service within the past 12 months... The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), was created in 1995 to recognize the exemplary volunteer work of middle level and high school students... Ohio's top youth volunteers of 2019 were Bryan Yan, 18, of Mason, who formed a nonprofit organization that recruits volunteers to provide academic and other kinds of assistance to local children who are being raised by their non-biological parents, and Tanya Keskar, 14, also of Mason, who built a website to raise awareness of the poverty she had witnessed in the slums of India, and hosted an event that brought in $1,000 to cover a full year of education expenses for 40 Indian children.
