Public Survey of Science Model Curriculum
for Standards Approved 2018
The Science Model
Curriculum offers Ohio educators in-depth guidance about Ohio’s Learning
Standards for Science and explains related skills and knowledge students are to
learn in each grade and course. The purpose of Ohio’s Model Curriculum is to
provide clarity to the standards, as well as information to assist educators in
planning and implementing their local curricula. The Model Curriculum is not a
complete curriculum nor is it mandated for use.
Teams of educators
from across the state helped the Ohio Department of Education update the
Science Model Curriculum following the adoption of Ohio’s Learning Standards
for Science in 2018.
The Department now
invites the public to comment on these suggested updates to the Science Model
Curriculum for grades K-12 during a month-long survey that will close Sept. 28,
2018. Teams of educators will review these comments and incorporate them into
the Model Curriculum, as appropriate. The current timeline, subject to change,
projects the Department will present the model curriculum updates to the State
Board of Education for adoption in spring 2019.
Once in the survey, select the “Science Model Curriculum” link. There,
participants can
- provide a general comment on the process or
totality of the result;
- review and comment on the “Nature of Science,”
which was developed based on public comments from the standards revision. The
Nature of Science will replace the current “Science Inquiry and Application”
section of the Model Curriculum; and
- review and comment on selected grade(s) and/or
course(s).
Thank you for your
input to the revision process and for your support of Ohio public education. Learn
more about the Model Curriculum updates and take the feedback survey now.
