The Ohio School Boards Association's 2018 Special Education Law Workshop
The Ohio School Boards Association's 2018 Special Education Law Workshop is scheduled for Friday, March 2. The workshop is open to school board members, administrators, and staff of school districts and ESCs that are members of OSBA, and offers a unique opportunity to learn from some of the most experienced special education lawyers representing school districts in Ohio. This year's workshop will kick off with an update from the Office for Exceptional Children at the Ohio Department of Education. Attendees will hear about OEC's priorities for this year and have a chance to ask questions. Other sessions in the workshop are:
- Developing partnerships with parents and guardians, taught by Jeremy Neff, Esq. (Ennis Britton Co. LPA) and Dr. Heidi Stickney (Northwest Local School District in Hamilton County)
- Managing lawsuits and dispute resolution, taught by Laura Anthony, Esq. (Bricker & Eckler LLP)
- IDEA and Sec. 504: What's the difference and why does it matter?, taught by Helen S. Carroll, Esq. (Roetzel & Andress LPA)
- Educating students in the least restrictive environment, taught by Jessica Dawso, Esq. (Scott Scriven LLP)

The workshop will be held at the Embassy Suites, Columbus (2700 Corporate Exchange Drive, 43231), which is easily accessible from I-270. A light breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee.

Intervener Basics: An Introduction to Intervener Services
This is a one-day, face-to-face training using the Open Hands Open Access (OHOA) Intervener Modules created by the National Center on Deaf-Blindness (NCDB). It will include excerpts from several modules with discussions and hand-on learning experiences.

Interpreting Strategies for Students Who Are Deafblind
This one-day face-to-face training explores the unique needs of interpreting for students who are Deaf and also have visual impairment. Participants need an extensive knowledge of interpreting skills and concepts to attend.

VIISA Training
This 4-part training is geared toward Early Intervention Specialists and preschool teachers working with students who have visual impairments. VIISA is one of the SKI-HI curriculum trainings out of Utah State University and qualifies for the Intervention Program Planning and Development seminar. Participation in all 4 days is required.

Communication Options for Students Who Are Deafblind or Have Multiple Disabilities
This training explores a variety of communication options for students who are deafblind or have multiple disabilities, including hearing loss and vision loss. Participants will learn and practice different types of communication, including Haptics.

Registration is open for the Transition to Adulthood Series, which focuses on transition of students with combined hearing-vision loss and multiple disabilities. The training using the Open Hands Open Access Intervener Modules followed by an online discussion.
