Standards
for Mathematical Practice
The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe the skills that
mathematics educators should work to develop in their students. The
descriptions of the mathematical practices in these documents provide examples
of how student performance will change and grow as students work to master new,
more advanced mathematical ideas across grade levels. Find additional resources
on the Standards for Mathematical Practice here.
Guidelines
for Assessment and Instruction in
Statistics
Education (GAISE) Report
Many of the 2017 revisions to the Probability
and Statistics domain of Ohio Learning Standards
for Mathematics are based on the GAISE
Report. This report is a framework for studying statistical problem
solving. The GAISE Report contains class problems and activities teachers
can incorporate into instruction across many the Probability and Statistics
standards in grade 6 and higher. To learn more, click here for a copy of the full report.
Suggested
Timeline for Transitioning to the Revised 2017 Ohio Learning Standards for
Mathematics
In a February
notification, Mathematics subscribers received notice of the release of a Suggested Timeline to help educators transition to the revised
standards. If you have not checked the timeline recently, you may have missed new
hyperlinks. Since February, we’ve added several new links to make new resources
for the standards revision more accessible. Subscribers also can go directly to
these resources on the Department’s website.
Comment Period for the Learning in Ohio Website
If
you have not yet shared with us your thoughts about the new Learning in Ohio
website, we ask you to complete a short survey by
midnight on Wednesday, April 5 when the survey closes. Thank you to those who
already submitted suggestions.
The new website includes redesigned
mathematics and English language arts sections,
where users will find resources including suggested learning activities and
side-by-side comparisons of the 2010 and revised 2017 standards. The site also
describes how educators can use four major parts of Ohio’s education system –
standards, model curricula, assessments and resources – to help students learn
and succeed.
We will appreciate your feedback.
