Regional State Support Teams are providing Ohio’s State Test Accessibility Manual training for the spring 2016 state tests. Ohio’s Accessibility Manual is a comprehensive policy document providing information about the accessibility features of Ohio’s State Tests for grades 3 through 8 and high school in English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.
The purpose of the trainings will be to ensure all staff in districts involved with state test administration – including test coordinators, test administrators and others – appropriately and effectively implement Ohio’s state test accessibility system to all students. Training participants will discuss administrative considerations, universal tools and designated supports as well as accommodations for students with disabilities and English language learners.
The State Support Team training sessions are in the STARS system that registrants can access through their individual SAFE accounts. Find session dates in STARS by selecting Event Search and placing accessibility in the Event Name search box. If you have difficulty finding sessions near you, please contact your local State Support Team.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Strategies in Action gives families and service providers tools to ensure they are equipped to effectively care for, support educate, employ or work with individuals on the autism spectrum from early childhood to young adulthood. These modules are offered through the Autism Certification Center which offers professional development hours and certificate. Those who work and reside in Ohio receive a free yearly subscription. This project is funded through a joint state agency collaborative.
On Dec. 10, the Center for Instructional Supports and Accessible
Materials will mail a 2015 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students
packet on behalf of the Ohio Department of Education’s Office for
Exceptional Children. The center requests the registration of every
student attending school in your district who is legally blind.
Districts that serve students with visual impairments know the
importance of providing accessible educational materials (audio,
Braille, digital and large print textbooks and educational aids). The
Federal Quota registration generates funds for registered students that
the center administers to purchase accessible educational materials at
the district’s request from the American Printing House for the Blind.
Each registered student must have a current eye report (2013 or later)
on file in the student’s district of attendance. The registration form
included in the packet will be due by Friday, Jan. 29, 2016.
