Linn Street Reconstruction Project Update
Linn Street closure April 1; I-75 North weekend closure April 10; I-75 South weekend closure April 17
Hamilton County (Friday, March 27, 2026) – Utility work continues in preparation for the Linn Street Bridge Replacement and Reconstruction project, and with these wrapping up over the next two weeks, a long-term closure of Linn Street over Interstate 75 will go into effect next week.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will be replacing and reconstructing the bridge that is situated between W. 8th and W. Court streets, reconfiguring it to two, 10-foot driving lanes, with bike lanes and sidewalks on each side. The project will also include some minor reconfiguring of W. Court Street and Winchell Avenue, as well as replacement of the pedestrian bridge over Winchell.
Linn Street is now scheduled for closure on Wednesday, April 1, and the closure will be in place through the spring of 2029. During its closure, northbound traffic will be detoured by way of W. 8th Street, Freeman Avenue and Ezzard Charles Drive, and southbound traffic will be re-routed via Ezzard Charles Drive, Western Avenue, Freeman Avenue and W. 8th.
I-75 Weekend Closures Planned for Bridge Demolition
The following back-to-back weekend closures of I-75 North and South will be required for crews to demolish the Linn Street bridge over the interstate. The closures will occur in alternating directions over two, consecutive weekends.
Friday-Monday, April 10-13
- Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, April 10, I-75 North will be closed between the U.S. 50 exit (Exit 1D) and the Freeman Avenue entrance ramp.
- The closure will remain in place until 5 a.m. Monday, April 13.
- The entrance ramps from Fort Washington Way, 4th, and 6th streets will be closed during this time.
Friday-Monday, April 17-20
- Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, April 17, I-75 South will be closed between the Freeman Avenue (Exit 1F) exit ramp and the 9th Street/8th Street Viaduct entrance ramp.
- The closure will remain in place until 5 a.m. Monday, April 20.
- The entrance ramp from Western Avenue will be closed permanently.
Local Roadway Closures
As part of the Linn Street bridge replacement, the following local streets are closed for roadway reconstruction:
- The ramp to Winchell Avenue/Ezzard Charles Drive/Liberty Street from I-75 North, 9th Street and 6th Street is closed through May 2029.
- Access from 6th Street to Winchell Avenue is closed with a right-lane closure on the ramp. Motorists can continue to access I-75 from 6th Street.
- Access from 9th Street is closed to both Winchell Avenue and I-75 North.
- Motorists from 9th Street may continue onto 8th Street to Freeman Avenue to I-75 North.
- An alternate route to Winchell Avenue and Ezzard Charles Drive from I-75 North includes 6th Street (U.S. 50 West) and Freeman Avenue.
- Gest Street is closed between Freeman Avenue and the W.7th/W. 8th Street overpasses through June 2030.
- Eastbound motorists are being detoured by way of Freeman Avenue and W. 8th Street to Gest Street.
- Westbound traffic is being detoured via Linn Street, W. 8th Street and Freeman Avenue or by way of W. 5th Street, Linn Street, W. 8th and Freeman to Gest Street.
The Linn Street Reconstruction project one of several major investments aimed at delivering infrastructure improvements to the region. This project is part of the broader Brent Spence Bridge Corridor, and the improvements to the Ohio segments, Phases 1 and 2.
Great Lakes Construction Company was awarded a contract in the amount of $46.7 million to undertake the Linn Street project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in late spring of 2029.
