Preparations Under Way for Linn Street Reconstruction
Winchell Avenue ramp set for closure this weekend
Hamilton County (Tuesday, February 10, 2026) – As one of many major investments to deliver infrastructure improvements to the region, the Linn Street Reconstruction project is set to begin with preliminary work getting under way next week.
The Linn Street project includes replacing and reconstructing the bridge over I-75 and reconfiguring it to two, 10-foot driving lanes, with bike lanes and sidewalks on each side. The project will also include some minor reconfiguring of W. Court Street and Winchell Avenue to the west, as well as replacement of the pedestrian bridge over Winchell.
As crews prepare to start construction on Linn Street, a long-term closure of the ramp to Winchell Avenue will go into effect this weekend for its reconstruction at Linn Street, as well as for the replacement of the pedestrian bridge.
At 6 p.m. Sunday, February 15, the ramp to Winchell Avenue which is accessible from Interstate 75 North, 9th Street and 6th Street will be closed, and the closure will remain in place through May 2029.
Access to Winchell Avenue from 6th Street will be closed with a right-lane closure on the ramp. However, closure from 9th Street will also mean closure of the ramp to I-75 North, and motorists from 9th Street will be able to continue onto 8th Street to Freeman Avenue to I-75 North. An alternate route to Winchell Avenue and Ezzard Charles Drive from I-75 North includes 6th Street (U.S. 50 West) and Freeman Avenue.
Linn Street will be closed beginning in early April, and the closure will be in effect through the duration of the project. Northbound traffic will be detoured by way of W. 8th Street, Freeman Avenue and Ezzard Charles Drive, and southbound traffic will be re-routed via Ezzard Charles Drive, Western Avenue, Freeman Avenue and W. 8th.
Great Lakes Construction Company was awarded a contract in the amount of $46.7 million to undertake the Linn Street project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in late spring of 2029.
Gest Street Closure This Week
Gest Street will be closed between Freeman Avenue and the W.7th/W. 8th Street overpasses at 9 a.m. Thursday, February 12, for crews to begin a major waterline replacement.
The closure, which will be in effect through June 2030, will also be in place for the upcoming Linn Street Reconstruction project, as well as the reconstruction of the Gest and 7th/8th Street intersection that are part of the overall Brent Spence Bridge Corridor initiative.
Eastbound motorists will be detoured by way of Freeman Avenue and W. 8th Street to Gest Street, while westbound traffic will be detoured via Linn Street, W. 8th Street and Freeman Avenue or by way of W. 5th Street, Linn Street, W. 8th and Freeman to Gest Street.
