New I-70 eastbound ramp to Fulton Street
Opens Saturday, November 15
|
Starting Saturday morning, the new I-70 eastbound exit ramp to Fulton Street in downtown Columbus will be open to traffic. This marks a key milestone in ODOT’s Downtown Ramp Up project to rebuild I-70/71 to improve safety and reduce congestion through the corridor.
The new two-lane ramp will serve as a primary gateway into downtown Columbus. Drivers traveling east on I-70 should keep right to access the ramp. Traffic from I-71 northbound will also be able to use this new connection.
As part of this phase, the Front Street bridge has been reconstructed and converted to two-way traffic to improve traffic flow across I-70. The new bridge design also includes improved bike and pedestrian facilities, as well as room for greenspace, creating a more welcoming entrance into downtown Columbus.
Due to the proximity of the new Fulton Street ramp, the existing I-70 eastbound ramp to Livingston Avenue will permanently close on Saturday, November 15. To access Livingston Avenue motorists should use the new I-70 eastbound ramp to Fulton Street, then continue via 3rd Street to Livingston Avenue.
By the end of 2025, the new I-71 southbound flyover ramp is expected to open to traffic. Once open, the flyover ramp will serve as the primary route for motorists to remain on I-71 southbound through downtown.
This $280 million phase of the project is expected to be completed by Summer 2026.
