Traffic Change Set For S.R. 48/I-71 South Intersection
Warren County (Thursday, October 9, 2025) – A traffic change will be implemented at the intersection of state Route 48 and the southbound I-71 interchange ramps as part of the ongoing interchange and safety improvement project in Warren County.
On Friday, October 10, contractors will close access and prevent left-turn movements from the southbound I-71 off ramp to S.R. 48 North. With left turns prohibited, motorists will be required to turn right onto southbound S.R. 48 and use the signalized intersection at the northbound I-71 on/off ramps to make a U-turn to S.R. 48 North.
This change is being implemented to improve safety during construction. The overall project, which is sponsored by the Warren County Transportation Improvement District, includes installing a new traffic signal at the S.R. 48 intersection and I-71 southbound ramp, extending the northbound S.R. 48 left-turn lane to I-71 South, widening S.R. 48 North through the intersection, and widening the southbound I-71 ramps to two lanes.
Traffic changes have been implemented in both directions at the S.R. 48 North and South exit/entrance ramps to I-71 North and South, with traffic being maintained in shifted lanes. As work progresses, additional restrictions may be in effect on S.R. 48, as well as on the ramps at southbound I-71; however, traffic will be maintained.
Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. was awarded a contract in the amount of approximately $4.83 million to complete the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026.
