Overnight Restrictions On I-71 This Week
For Bridge Demolition

Greene County (Tuesday, April 22, 2025) – Restrictions will be in place on Interstate 71 North and South in Greene County this week as part of a bridge rehabilitation project over the interstate.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are rehabilitating the bridge on S.R. 72 over I-71, and this week they will be close I-71 at the overpass during the late evening and overnight hours to remove the bridge deck. 

Beginning tonight, April 22, and continuing through Friday, April 25, crews will use close I-71 under S.R. 72 and use "up and over" traffic pattern to shift traffic from I-71 by way of the exit and entrance ramps at the S.R. 72 interchange (Exit 58). 

The traffic pattern will be in effect from 9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. the following day, with operations starting in the southbound direction and moving to the northbound side as demolition progresses.

A 150-day closure of S.R. 72 went into effect April 14, and while the route is closed, northbound motorists will be detoured by way of I-71 North and S.R. 435 in Fayette County to I-71 South, and southbound motorists will be rerouted via I-71 South and U.S. 68 in Clinton County to I-71 North.

Miller Brothers Construction, Inc. was awarded a contract for $2.8 million to complete the project, as well as a bridge rehabilitation on Orchard Grove Road over I-71, and all work will be completed by late June 2026.
