Recent reports indicate that hackers originating from China obtained sensitive data from numerous mobile users, targeting U.S. telecom companies and high-profile individuals. While the hack is national in scope, there is no evidence at this time that anyone within ODOT has been targeted. Regardless, it is advisable to review and follow best security practices at work, and at home, to keep your information safe.
To protect yourself, consider the following steps:
- Enable RCS for end-to-end encryption (iMessages for Apple, Google Messages on Android, or Signal- supported by both platforms).
- Avoid clicking suspicious links in texts or emails and verify any unusual communications.
- Keep your mobile devices updated with the latest security patches.
- Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on personal accounts using apps like DUO Mobile or Microsoft Authenticator.
- Be cautious with unsolicited communications.
As always, please report any unusual activity immediately to your manager or security@dot.ohio.gov
