U.S. 68/S.R. 235 Roundabout Project Update
Roundabout Opened To Traffic
Greene County (Tuesday, December 3, 2024) – Substantial construction of a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. Route 68 and state Route 235 in Greene County has been completed, and the new traffic pattern is now open to traffic.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have constructed a single-lane roundabout at the junction of U.S. 68 and S.R. 235 near the community of Oldtown in Xenia Township.
Site preparations began in early June and following preliminary work, S.R. 235 was closed in mid-July for construction to begin on the $2.29 million project.
The project was identified due to the intersection's ranking on ODOT's Highway Safety Improvement Program list of high crash rural locations, and constructing a roundabout was determined to provide the greatest benefit toward improving safety.
Although crews from John R. Jurgensen have completed nearly all of construction, some minor finishing work, such as landscaping, will be completed in the spring of next year.
With the new traffic pattern now in effect, motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution, including traveling at a reduced speed, when approaching and driving through the roundabout.
