Lebanon, Ohio (Friday, June 7, 2024) – A bridge rehabilitation project on Irwin Simpson Road over Interstate 71 in Warren County continues to make progress, but recent developments to build additional improvements associated with the Kingswood Park in Deerfield Township have changed the course of construction and the maintenance of traffic plan.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are rehabilitating the bridge on Irwin Simpson Road over I-71, and in part, construction includes replacing the parapets, expansion joints and vandal fence, painting beam ends of the structure and constructing a sidewalk along the bridge.
In a separate project recently developed by the Warren County Transportation Improvement District and Deerfield Township Administration, construction is getting under way along Irwin Simpson Road to build a retaining wall and extend the sidewalk that is being constructed with the bridge project to provide connectivity from the overpass to Kingswood Park.
As construction of the Kingswood Path Connection will require Irwin Simpson Road to be closed between the overpass and the entrance to the park, the agencies have coordinated the maintenance of traffic plan for both projects. Although the bridge on Irwin Simpson was slated to be reopened by June 1, it will remain closed while crews complete finishing work on the bridge and construct the sidewalk extension to Kingswood Park.
The Kingswood Path Connection is one of many projects to expand opportunities for recreational amenities and activities as identified in Deerfield Township's Comprehensive Park Master Plan and driven by the Township's commitment to develop parks, recreation programming, open space, trails, and facilities.
Currently, it is anticipated that construction will be completed and Irwin Simpson Road will be reopened to traffic in early August. While it remains closed, motorists will continue to be detoured by way of Duke Boulevard, Innovation Way, Socialville Foster Road, and Columbia Road.
