UPDATE: Ramp from State Route 8 northbound to I-271 northbound is now open
AKRON – One lane of the ramp from State Route 8 northbound to Interstate 271 northbound, is now open. One lane will remain closed while additional inspections are being performed.
“A hands-on in-depth inspection was done to verify that the structure did not receive any damage that would affect its structural capacity,” said Ohio Department of Transportation District 4 Deputy Director Gery Noirot.
SR 8 southbound between Highland Rd. and Hines Hill Rd. remains closed at the crash site as a contractor has started making repairs to the top layer of the roadway on the bridge that carries the highway over Brandywine Creek. These repairs include milling off and replacing the top layer of the concrete on the structure. Crews are working to have at least one lane of SR 8 southbound open prior to next Monday morning’s rush hour.
On Tuesday, one lane of the ramp from I-271 southbound to SR 8 southbound was re-opened, one lane will remain closed while crews continue using the ramp as a staging area for their operations.
